As the media space has become increasingly saturated, consumers have also become more savvy and discerning. We make purchasing decisions carefully and value authenticity and credibility. Any athlete or active person can immediately recognize the difference between genuine athletic skill in their sport and an imitation by an unskilled model. As such, we believe it is critically important that brands marketing through the imagery of sports or to an active audience utilize talent with undeniable skills.

We credit Dave Weiss, our President and Founder, with the vision to first recognize the need for a specialized resource of sports and lifestyle talent. The seed for the company was planted after Dave moved to Portland in 1980 to pursue a commercial art career. Shortly after arriving in Portland, Dave was approached about working as a model and entered the industry. As a fit and healthy collegiate level athlete, Dave found that his marketability was of particular interest to sports and active lifestyle related companies. From his first booking, Dave experienced a lucrative modeling/acting career spanning eleven years. During that time he worked as a talent with over 100 companies, including clients such as Nike, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Avia, and InSport.

In light of the fact that there were no other commercial talent agencies focusing specifically on sports, fitness and lifestyle related projects, Dave began acting as his own agent. Thereafter, he began consulting with the companies that hired him. Dave would provide resources for talent, scout locations, recommend photographers, and provide technical advice. In a short period of time, he realized there was a specific need for a talent agency specializing in providing a resource of fit, healthy, and skilled talent. With the experience and knowledge Dave had amassed as an athlete and a model, he founded Sports Unlimited.

From the modest beginnings of representing only 10 athletes in 1991, Sports Unlimited has since developed a reputation for providing the nation’s most comprehensive resource of sports and lifestyle talent for use in advertising, entertainment, and promotion.
